Boston Herald: Donnie Wahlberg helps score fan new kidney
The Boston Herald has an article about Donnie helping a fan find a kidney donor. Here is the article:
NKOTB’s Donnie Wahlberg helps score fan new kidney
By Gayle Fee and Laura Raposa with Megan Johnson

Self-proclaimed “Twitter-aholic” Donnie Wahlberg doles out daily inspiration and gives a lot of “twugs” to his 183,000-plus followers, but he never thought he’d help find a NKOTB fan a kidney!
“Basically, a few of my Twitter followers retweeted a blog (called ‘Love Can Do Anything’) about a fan named Bobbette who was in desperate need of a kidney transplant,” he told the Track — in more than 140 characters. “So I saw the tweet, read the link and then retweeted and asked for help.”
The Twitter APB back in December reached thousands of NKOTB fans and prompted a flood of calls to Vanderbilt University Medical Center that yielded six matches for Bobbette Miller, her BFF Abbie Vicknair told the Track. Turns out, one of the Twitter Six had the Right Stuff so the Nashville gal is scheduled for a transplant in June!
Until then, the girl’s Hangin’ Tough!
“Back when we found out Bobbette needed a transplant, her kidney was functioning around 20 percent,” said Vicknair aka @abbielicious613. “I knew I had to reach a lot of people in the fastest way possible, so I posted the blog on Twitter. And within two hours, I saw that Donnie retweeted the link. I stopped dead when I read it. I couldn’t believe he did it.”
In fact, Abbie said she joined the popular social networking site three years ago because she heard that @donniewahlberg engaged with fans via the Twitterverse.
“I figured, ‘Oh, this will be fun for a couple of months,’” she laughed. “And then Donnie helped save my friend’s life.”
Wahlberg, who we caught up with during a break in rehearsals for the upcoming NKOTBSB tour, brushed off the good deed and said it was a “team effort” that found Miller her kidney.
“It’s a testament to the value of Twitter when used for more than telling people what one is eating for dinner or using it to sell products by tweeting as an #endorser,” he told us.

AndPOP Interview with Jordan Knight
AndPOP has posted an interview with Jordan, here is a copy below:
Jordan Knight stepped into the spotlight at the age of 14, as the lead singer of original boy-band phenomenon, New Kids on the Block. Almost 26 years later, and Knight is preparing to spend his summer on a sold out tour with NKOTB and the Backstreet Boys, as well as getting ready to release his first solo record in almost five years titled, Unfinished.
And with his album’s first single, ‘Let’s Go Higher,’ already taking the airwaves by storm, it would seem that the five-year wait for Unfinished, was well worth it.
“‘Let’s Go Higher’ is the perfect first single because it’s happy, fun and really upbeat,” says Knight. “You want that first single to be something that covers the broad scope of the record,” he adds. “The rest of the album is basically just as upbeat, fun and happy as it is.’”
Fans who have enjoyed the slower ballads shouldn’t be worried though, as Knight promises, “Of course, there will be a couple ballads too.”
The first single, which Knight worked on with producer Colby O’Donis, has already garnered tens of thousands of YouTube hits –and the official video isn’t even out yet. Completing the final edit just last week, Knight says fans can expect the video to be a mix between cool, sexy and fun – though the process wasn’t easy.
“It was a lot of work,” says Knight, “because the song is happy and upbeat, but sometimes it’s harder to translate that into video. I’m not 14,” he adds, “I can’t jump around and do that kind of thing, but you still want it to be happy and fun.”
The last time Knight released a “fun” video, was in 1999 for his Billboard Hot 100 hit “Give it to You”— arguably his most commercially successful song to date. Though “Let’s Go Higher,” carries the same dance-pop, upbeat style, Knight said he’s not interested in trying to churn out hit singles.
“I don’t think about that hit factor as much when I’m creating music. In fact, ‘Give it to you’ was one of three songs I’d sent to a radio station in Florida and I actually thought another song should have been the first single, but they said ‘No, this is it, this is the hit,’ and we went with it,” said the singer. “But that song, that was an experiment and it just so happened that it ended up being as popular as it was.”
Since then, Knight has released four solo albums, including Jordan Knight, The Fix and in 2006, Love Songs. Though fans have been holding their breath for a fifth solo record, Knight explained the reason for Unfinished’s five year delay.
“Three out of those five years were spent focusing on New Kids, reuniting and performing and working out the tour,” said Knight. “And in between that, it was just never the right timing to go ahead and start working on solo projects.”
Knight also says that his last solo record Love Songs, was in fact, a race against deadlines and not a labour of love.
“It wasn’t really an album I put my heart and soul into. There were only three songs I put my heart into and felt good about. Everything else, I went into the studio, sang and left. I didn’t want Unfinished to be like that.”
With the sold out NKOTBSB tour, Knight will no doubt be incredibly busy performing with the group this coming summer. But fans of the artist shouldn’t lose hope for a solo tour just yet.
“Hopefully, I can do one, once everything with the NKOTBSB tour is over,” says Knight, adding that smaller tours are almost more fun than touring with a group.
“At the larger tours, you kind of have to play the most popular hits because you want all of the fans to be included, whereas at smaller shows, you can focus on performing the stuff you know your personal fans will enjoy too.”
Though some breakout artists may stress to surpass the success of their original musical group, Knight doesn’t pressure himself to compete with the New Kids.
“New Kids is bigger than all of the individual members,” explains the artist, “but I do compete against myself. It’s all about the process and working to create something that I’m happy with.”
And even though the 40-year-old father of two admits balancing his role as lead singer, solo artist and family man are difficult, he’s never deviated from music – though he’s thought about it once or twice.
“I always thought it’d be nice to be a painter, that or maybe a counsellor,” he says. “When everything is not going as planned you sometimes question, ‘Why am I still doing this?’ — but ultimately it’s the love of music that keeps bringing me back.”
If you’re looking for the perfect album to blast with the windows down this summer, keep an eye out for the release of Jordan Knight’s Unfinished this coming May, by checking out his official website, Twitter, or Facebook page.

Joey McIntyre to guest star in tv show "Psych"
Here is an article from Yahoo about Joey guest starring in the TV show Psych:
There's a New Kid on the Psych block.
Joey McIntyre, one of the members of the boy (now men!) band New Kids on the Block, will guest-star on USA's upcoming sixth season of Psych, EW reports.
The "buff new officer" (McIntyre) will join the Santa Barbara PD but appears to be harboring a secret. Could he be the masked vigilante The Mantis, who's been taking out the city's drug syndicate? Shawn (James Roday) and Gus (Dul Hill) certainly think so.
Malcolm McDowell heads to Psych for season premiere
Other Season 6 guest stars previously announced include Malcolm McDowell and Kristy Swanson.
McIntyre has appeared on Boston Public and competed on the first season of Dancing With the Stars, placing third. He recently reunited with his old band mates and the Backstreet Boys to collaborate on the NKOTBSB act.

Donnie on Covino and Rich
Here is a recap of Donnie on the Covino and Rich Show:
We had the pleasure of interviewing Donnie Wahlberg. He spoke about his childhood and how he used to wrestle with his brother Mark. Their wrestling matches were pretty intense, they used to jump off tables, and land on top of each other. Even though they play fought, they also had some real fights, which were also pretty intense. Believe it or not, Donnie is a huge fan of reality TV. He mentioned how he watches shows like ‘Jersey Shore’ and ‘Bad Girl’s Club’ all the time. He’s also a fan of ‘The Apprentice.’ We shifted gears and asked Donnie if he’s a “porn watcher,” he said he’s not into it because anyone can find out what you’re surfing when you’re on the web. He said maybe when porn becomes a little more mainstream and we see it on cbs or nbc, is when he’ll start watching. Overall Donnie Wahlberg, is a very chill guy. He was so down to Earth. He mentioned how he loves to play poker and how he has been playing his whole life, he has even had the opportunity to appear on ‘Celebrity Poker Showdown,’ which he thought was an awesome and humbling experience. Covino and Rich were just so amazed by how cool Donnie was. Donnie Wahlberg brought great vibes to the show and we were so happy to have him. Don’t forget, he has a tour coming up with New Kids on the Block, so make sure to catch him!

Summary of Kelli Daisy's interview with Jordan Knight
Yummy Mommy Club blogger, Kelli Daisy had a chance to interview Jordan, and here is her summary:
Back in the summer of 1990, when I was 17, the New Kids On The Block tour arrived at our local Ex. OF course we went. My sister and I, both fully obsessed with NKOTB, bought tickets immediately. I was a Jordan (who wasn’t?) and my sister was a Jordan, but also a Danny. The day of the concert it was pouring rain – it was an outdoor concert. The show went on though, but the stage was soaked. They couldn’t dance – at all. Instead, they chose to use the stage as one big slip and slide – it was awesome. This summer, 21 years later, I will see them again in concert. I might be more excited now.
When I found out that I was going to get to interview Jordan Knight – the Jordan Knight who starred in my teenage fantasies and who’s poster was plastered all over my high school bedroom walls – I was excited – but also slightly terrified. Jordan is on a publicity tour to promote his new album Unfinished and its first single Let’s Go Higher, meaning he’s basically giving interview after interview. I was nervous I wouldn’t ask the ‘right’ questions and that he would think I was a bad interviewer. Seriously – think of how mundane answering the same questions over and over and over again must be. I didn’t want to be the girl who bored Jordan Knight to death! I mean watched him tweet that he’s really sick of people asking him about Justin Bieber (note to self – avoid any and all Justin Bieber questions) and all of a sudden all I could think of were Justin Bieber questions! Honestly – total interviewer anxiety!
So given the fact that Jordan is promoting his new single we started off talking about that. Have you heard Let’s Go Higher? I first heard it when he performed it on The Marilyn Denis show and instantly I liked it. Its up-tempo, it’s catchy, it's fun – and it totally makes me sing and dance in my kitchen when I listen to it. And it wasn’t supposed to be the first single either. When I asked Jordan about it he told me that he’d had that song in his back pocket for about a year, and each time his team tried to decide on what his debut single would be, they kept bringing it up. He felt like that meant it should be the debut single. I think it was a good call. And for all of you wondering when you’re going to see a video – don’t worry – he just wrapped shooting it – so he said it’s coming - within a week. I told him it might be a nice idea to tweet out some ‘teasers’ and he thought that was a great idea. So seriously if that happens – thank me.
The full album, Unfinished is dropping on May 31st –and he's really excited about it. His last solo album was in 1999 so this was kind of a labour of love for him. He sounded like this was the solo album he’s been waiting to make – like this is the one that is really him – that’s really Jordan. It wasn’t fake – he's sincerely excited for this album.
We then went on to talk about the upcoming NKOTBSB cruise and 41 City tour that kicks off on June 3rd and I couldn’t help but marvel at the dedication of the fans that buy ticket after ticket for these concerts. The cruise sold out the very first day the tickets went on sale!! Jordan was so cool about it though, saying the cruises especially are very humbling and their fans are now more like friends than fans. He recognizes that going to a NKOTBSB concert is about getting away from everyday life and going back to a time when you were a teenager. He gets it - I love it that they love that we are channelling our inner teenager at their concerts.
Jordan Knight is also a husband and father of two boys. We talked about the struggles of touring and being a father at the same time and surprisingly he has the same issues that most of us do as working parents. He says it’s a little easier to be away from his family when he’s on tour because at least then he’s in tour mode – he can focus on the job he has to do, and while he misses them he at least has his work to focus on. But it’s times like now – in the middle of promotion and filming videos and giving interviews that’s hard. Because he’s home, but he can’t really see them that much because there are commitments that keep him so busy. I asked him if his oldest son, who’s 11, was a singer, but he said although he’s a very talented pianist he’s more into sports these days. He was very clear that he doesn’t push him to do anything but be a typical 11 year old boy, which is pretty refreshing.
You’ve probably also heard that NKOTBSB also have released a new single ‘Don’t Turn off the Lights’ which - if you’re a fan – you’ll lose your shit over. I mean really – two of the biggest boy bands of the 1990’s/2000’s have joined together and put out a new song – a good song. The only thing that could make it better would be a video! But don’t hold your breath for that ladies – the logistics on that one are a little tough. Jordan thinks a video would be a great idea but it would only work if maybe they filmed it when they were in rehearsal. Again – another idea that if it happens I would like to take credit for. You’re welcome. They’re also putting out a greatest hits album with The Backstreet Boys – 5 NKOTB songs, 5 BSB songs and 2 original songs that will be available in May. And yes, you will get to see Jordan perform some of his new album during the tour as well!
We went on to talk about Twitter and how social media has really changed the game for artists these days. How all of them can now personally connect with their fans so they don’t have to wait for a magazine to decide to run a feature, or a radio station to decide to play their song – they can deliver it directly to their fans. And he loves the twitter fans – honestly. He was humble and genuine and really seemed to be thankful of all the diehard fans that tweet him and request his song. He said he loves reading when someone tweets him that they’re listening to Let’s Go Higher and that it’s just support and that he’s so thankful for it.
We talked about the young stars these days – and how so many of them seem to be succumbing to the spoils of fame. And how, even at the height of the NKOTB popularity, none of them ever got involved in a scandal. There were no drug problems, no driving under the influence problems, no violence, no diva behavior – nothing like that. And 20 years later – there’s still nothing like that. How? How can 5 men survive being the most popular men on the planet and still be normal, while certain young stars of today can’t turn 18 without an arrest record? This is what he had to say;
“We had each other. That was one of the biggest things. When you’re on a team you have your teammates to keep you in check and stand behind you. And that’s very important. Friends were important. “
He said they’re still friends – and that if one of them gets out of line, or if their ego starts to get too big, there’s always someone beside them to remind them who they are. I love that.
If you haven’t listened to Jordan’s new single ‘Let’s Go Higher’ – you can visit his website to hear it, or download it from iTunes. I’ve also attached it above. But when you listen to it make sure you turn it up really loud – it’s better that way. You should be listening to it - over and over. It's been on replay in my house for at least a week. His entire album will be available May 31st.
I have to say it was a pleasure to speak with him, because it’s not every day that you get to talk to someone that had a starring role in your dreams for most of your teenage years. I cannot wait until August 4th when the NKOTBSB tour hits Ottawa – my girlfriends and I all have our tickets and will be channeling our inner teenager. And you know what, I’m still a Jordan.
Back in the summer of 1990, when I was 17, the New Kids On The Block tour arrived at our local Ex. OF course we went. My sister and I, both fully obsessed with NKOTB, bought tickets immediately.
We talked about the young stars these days – and how so many of them seem to be succumbing to the spoils of fame. And how, even at the height of the NKOTB popularity, none of them ever got involved in a scandal. There were no drug problems, no driving under the influence problems, no violence, no diva behavior – nothing like that. And 20 years later – there’s still nothing like that. How? How can 5 men survive being the most popular men on the planet and still be normal, while certain young stars of today can’t turn 18 without an arrest record? This is what he had to say;

Donnie Wahlberg Hosts Poker Tournament in Boston
Donnie hosted a poker tournament to benefit the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation. Here is a report by TV station WHDH in Boston:
TEWKSBURY, Mass. -- Boston celebrities gathered in Tewksbury Saturday for a charity poker tournament hosted by Donnie Wahlberg.
Celtics coach Doc Rivers and Boston Bruin Sean Thornton were among the celebs showing off their poker faces.
The poker tournament benefited the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation. Brothers Donnie and Jimmy Wahlberg played both hosts and reporter when they got a hold of the 7NEWS mic.
“It looks like we're going to have just enough money to cover camp this year, so that's amazing,” Jimmy Wahlberg told Donnie, who was playing the role of a 7NEWS reporter.
"Camp" is Camp Northbound in Maine, where 150 inner-city kids will get to spend one week this summer for free, thanks to the foundation.
The kids aren't the only winners; stars like Celtics' guard Carlos Arroya got to show off their skills off the court.
The event drew a full house.

Jordan Knight Interview from 24 Hours - Vancouver
Here is an interview Jordan did with 24 Hours - Vancouver:
Jordan Knight is embarking on a new solo project, while reuniting with his fellow New Kids on the Block band mates alongside The Backstreet Boys for a series of dates that brings them to Rogers Arena July 9-10.
Joe Leary spent 24 Seconds with the former teen idol.
24: Has Canada been good to you both as a solo artist and with NKOTB?
JK: Canada has been good to me my entire life. My parents are Canadian and I’m a dual citizen. So I’ve been coming up to Canada my entire life. I used to always come up in the summer to visit my grandparents and my cousins and uncles and aunts. Then, when the New Kids came along, we were a big hit in Canada and still to this day. Our reunion tour kicked off in Toronto and we’ve toured extensively up here through the years. We’re looking forward to getting back to Vancouver, which is probably one of the prettiest places I’ve ever been.
24: How are people responding to your new single “Let’s go Higher.”
JK: The initial response has been tremendous. It’s an infectious song and not very hard to sell. When I go onstage, or I’m out there promoting it, I can relax and just let the song speak for itself. It does all the work for me basically. People just want to hear it. It makes people feel good.
24: How have you evolved as an artist over the years?
JK: I feel I’m constantly getting better and that’s one of the reasons why I’m naming my album, Unfinished. I always feel your artistry and your life, and even the relationships in your life, are always unfinished and always growing. You can always learn new things and mature more.
24: How are you different in 2011 than you were in the 1980s?
JK: I listen to people more. Back in the day, I didn’t listen much and if I didn’t get my way, maybe I wouldn’t respond well. Now, I really like to hear what other people think and hear their opinions. I guess you have to have a certain sense of humility to do that. That’s probably one of the ways that I’ve evolved.
24: Were you surprised your reunion tour dates have become so popular?
JK: We set it up so that we couldn’t really fail, so there were hopes that that would happen. We set up 10 shows for our hardcore fans and because we hadn’t been out there for 15 years, we just wanted to have some fun basically. We put 10 shows on sale and they blew out so quickly we decided to do a whole arena tour. From there, it went to a spring tour. From there, it went to a summer tour and now we’re having this tour with the Backstreet Boys. I didn’t think it would keep going like this.
